Back to Black Turns Twenty at the Roundhouse
On 21 October, the band that once carried Amy Winehouse's songs from rehearsal room to festival field returned to a Camden stage. The occasion was the 20th anniversary of Back to Black.
At the Roundhouse, the Amy Winehouse Band was joined by eleven guest vocalists, each taking one track from the album. Flo, Mark Ronson, Jessie Reyez and Baby Rose were among the names, and the keywords on the coverage also point to Lianne La Havas, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jorja Smith and Yebba. It was a roll call of singers who work in the territory she opened up between jazz phrasing and girl-group soul.
Two further items followed within days. Variety reports that a West End musical built on her songs is in early development, with producer Catherine Schreiber understood to be involved. Whether a jukebox format suits a record this exact remains an open question.
Meanwhile, the band's anniversary tour continues into next year, with a Colchester Arts Centre date on 18 February 2027. Tickets start at £34.65.
