Kenny Barron's 1995 Brecon Trio Surfaces

Kenny Barron

Kenny Barron

Some of the best jazz documents are the ones nobody planned to publish. So Many Lovely Things: Live in Brecon is one of them: a never-before-issued concert by the Kenny Barron Trio, recorded at the Brecon Jazz Festival in Wales in 1995.

The band is Barron's 1990s working trio, with bassist Ray Drummond and drummer Ben Riley. Zev Feldman and Jordi Suñol produced the release from the Suñol archives. The set runs to ten performances, among them "Up Jumped Spring," "Silent Rain," "Nikara's Song" and "The Very Thought of You."

Barron was about thirty years into his recording career. All About Jazz hears him at the top of his power. His touch is the reason to listen: restraint, a light left hand, and phrases that seem to breathe on their own. A live trio that knows each other this well rewards patient listening.

Release: June 12, 2026, on Elemental Music, as a 2-LP set, 2-CD and digital.
