H.E.R. Lends Voice and Song to Forgotten Island

H.E.R.

H.E.R.

H.E.R. has stepped out from behind the sunglasses and the guitar, and into an animation booth. In DreamWorks' Forgotten Island, she voices Jo, one half of a childhood friendship that runs from the playground to high school, alongside Liza Soberano as Raissa.

The film draws on Philippine mythology, and it is personal for her. Her mother is Filipina, and she told reporters in Manila that scenes with Lola, the food and the gestures felt like her mother's home.

The music side matters for us. She co-wrote and co-produced the end-title song "BRB" with Ryan Tedder, which she performs with Soberano. The title comes from the sticky-note shorthand the two characters use to promise they'll return. The soundtrack also carries Filipino pop acts such as BINI and SB19, according to the same report.

It is a small, warm detour for a singer-guitarist whose own new music has been promised for a while. We'll keep an ear out.

Forgotten Island is in cinemas now.
