WAAN Release Sophomore Album

Dutch future-jazz duo WAAN have released their second album We Want WAAN via Sonar Kollektiv, recorded after saxophonist Bart Wirtz and keyboardist Emiel van Rijthoven retreated to the Dutch island of Texel in mid-2024.

Their 2023 debut Echo Echo earned two Edison Award nominations—the Dutch equivalent of the Grammys. The new record pushes their electro-acoustic aesthetic further, produced with Oscar de Jong of Kraak & Smaak and featuring Philadelphia artist Ivy Sole on "Been Blue."

The result is a deeply textured, cinematic album that fuses jazz, electronics, and beat culture with raw emotional clarity. WAAN deliver a rich blend of electronically propelled grooves, atmospherically crafted melodies, and an eclectic mix of vigorous jazz, roots, funk, and dance—proof that the pair's self-described tech-nerd approach yields music unafraid of contradiction.
